About Ted Joans

Ted Joans, a painter, trumpet player, jazz poet, and travel writer, is the author of more than thirty-five books, including Teducation, The Hipsters, and Black Pow Wow Jazz Poems. Born in Cairo, Illinois, in 1928, Joans earned his BFA from Indiana University in 1951, then moved to Greenwich Village, where he was associated with the Beat generation of the 1950s. For the past few decades he has spent summers in Europe and winters in Africa. He currently resides in Vancouver, BC.
